How to Choose a Qualified Electrician

It can be frustrating to find a good electrician at times. There are quite a few who have minimal experience and yet offer their services as if they were long time experts. When you want things done properly in your home or business, it’s essential you get an actual expert for the task.

There are a few things you should consider when choosing an electrician.

Get a Recommendation

Finding someone who has done an excellent job for a friend or family member will help narrow down the search, but even then, you may not find someone. If no one near you has had a good experience, you’ll have to get more creative in your search.

Look for a NICEIC Approved Electrician

NICEIC is a regulatory body for electricians and provides a register of verified electricians that you can check names against. These are all experts who have completed their qualifications in order to be listed.

In addition to a list of qualified electricians, NICEIC also provides a list of those who have claimed they are approved and are not, which allows you to avoid the bad ones, or at least some of them.

Find Local Electricians

Ideally, you’ll want someone who is nearby, so you can call if anything goes wrong. Hiring local electricians can be a good way to support the local economy, as well. However, the biggest benefit is simply knowing someone trustworthy is available within the area, should you need them.

Look for Efficient Workers

No one wants to be without power for weeks on end while awaiting a final approval or one last section to be wired. The electrician you hire should be efficient and work within the regulations set out locally. They will be able to give you a timeline and stick to it.

Consider a Company

Rather than hiring a single electrician, you may find it beneficial to hire from a company that offers multiple electricians. Not only have they already vetted the workers, but they will also have someone available even when your regular electrician is booked. This makes it easier to get your projects done and to have follow up projects and maintenance managed in a timely manner.

Finding a good electrician may take some time, but it’s worth doing. You do not want to have your home wired by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing as you’ll simply need to redo everything later.
